Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are the frogs harmed of killed?
A: Ethical Kambo harvesting does not harm the frogs.
This is one of the most common and harmful myths about Kambo. In reality, ethical gatherers treat the frogs with care, respect, and deep reverence. The indigenous tribes who have worked with Kambo for generations consider these frogs sacred, and their goal is to maintain a healthy, symbiotic relationship with them, as it's also believed that harming them would dishonor the spirits of the jungle and disrupt the sacred balance between humans and nature. The frogs are mainly nocturnal and reside high up in the trees; since they have few natural predators, they are found in abundance. The only current threat to the Kambo frog is the potential destruction of its habitat.
The process of gathering Kambo secretion looks like this:
✔ The frogs are carefully called down from the treetops by imitating the frogs’ vocalizations.
✔ They are never harmed or injured — they are held gently, lightly stimulated or “tickled” in order for the secretion to be carefully and gently collected from their back and legs.
✔ Before it’s released back into the forest, the frog is marked with a small, harmless rope around one of its legs. This ensures that the same frog is not disturbed again for a minimum of a few months. Since the frog’s secretion is its natural defense mechanism, it needs time to regenerate it before it can protect itself in the wild. If done correctly, it’s only the first secretions that are taken since this method leaves the frog with a sufficient amount left to defend itself from predators. Ethical harvesters respect this process, ensuring that the frogs are left alone until their secretion is fully restored, allowing them to remain healthy and safe in their environment.
The secretion used at Kambo Works comes from highly ethical sources, with personal videos sent showing the process — including the man who collects the secretion while kissing the frogs, gently comforting them, and showing the deep respect they deserve. Unfortunately, in some cases of untrained or exploitative harvesting, frogs may have been harmed. This is not the norm and not how Kambo Works operates.
Q: Is Kambo a poison?
A: Kambo is a secretion, not a poison.
Another common misconception is that Kambo is a “toxic poison.” In reality, Kambo is a bio-active secretion full of powerful peptides that interact with the body's receptors to promote detoxification, immune support, and nervous system regulation.
Unlike actual poisons, which harm or shut down bodily functions, Kambo’s peptides:
✔ Support immune function
✔ Stimulate cellular detoxification
✔ Help the body clear out stagnation and imbalance
Kambo is strong, but it is not toxic when applied topically — it’s a natural secretion that has been used safely for centuries by indigenous peoples.
Q: Can Kambo cure my disease/health issue?
A: While Kambo has extremely powerful effects on the body and mind, it is not necessarily an “instant cure.”
✔ What Kambo can do:
- Help reset the nervous system
- Support the immune system
- Assist with detoxification & emotional release
❌ What Kambo does not do:
- Cure chronic illnesses overnight
- Replace medical care or therapy
Kambo is a powerful healing tool where you may very well see and feel a big difference in your physical and mental health quickly, but it works best when combined with guidance that helps to make more optimal long-term choices for your well-being. Many chronic issues are rooted in unhealthy habits, and Kambo offers a unique opportunity to break those patterns and establish healthier, more sustainable healing practices.
Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: The number of Kambo sessions you may need depends on your individual health challenges and your goals for healing.
Some people come for a single session, while others find that monthly or bi-monthly sessions offer continued support and maintenance, depending on their life situation and health. There's no one-size-fits-all answer — each person’s path with Kambo is unique.
If you’re working toward something specific — like relief from depression, emotional trauma, or a major detox — we recommend committing to at least three sessions. These can be done back to back/three days in a row for a more intensive experience, or spaced out over a few weeks for gentle integration.
Q: Will I vomit?
A: Most likely, yes.
Vomiting is one of the most common forms of purging during a Kambo session. But unlike food poisoning or the flu, this kind of vomiting is intentional, therapeutic, and deeply cleansing. Kambo works with the body to activate your detox pathways and move out physical, energetic, and emotional stagnation. Purging during Kambo isn’t just about what you ate, but is often a release of built-up inflammation, bile, mucus, stress, and even old emotions that have been held in the body. You will most likely visually see candida, bacteria and occasionally small parasites in your bucket.
That said, not everyone vomits, and that’s totally okay too. Some people purge through crying, shaking, bowel movements, sweating, or simply feeling a deep emotional release. Your body will guide the process in the way it needs most.
Q: Will I be able to go back to work after my session?
A: Some people leave feeling energized, clear, and ready to move, while others may feel tired, emotionally tender, or in need of rest. However your body responds, it's all valid. Every Kambo session is different. We recommend setting aside time after your session to rest, reflect, and integrate the experience. Giving yourself space afterward is an important part of the healing process.
Q: Will I get high or hallucinate?
A: No.
Kambo is not psychoactive — it does not produce a high or alter your state of consciousness. Research by the FDA, along with findings from the International Association of Kambo Practitioners (IAKP), supports that Kambo has no psychoactive properties.
Q: Does Kambo raise blood pressure?
A: Yes, but only temporarily.
When Kambo is applied, it stimulates the body’s stress and detox response, which can cause a brief increase in heart rate and blood pressure. This is a normal part of the process, and typically peaks within the first few minutes of the session before gradually returning to baseline as the body begins to purge and regulate.
For most healthy individuals, this temporary rise in blood pressure is safe and short-lived. If you have a history of high blood pressure or heart-related conditions, we will thoroughly review your health history to ensure Kambo is a safe fit for you.
Q: What does Kambo do spiritually?
A: While Kambo is not psychedelic, many people experience profound spiritual and energetic shifts as a result of working with it.
Traditionally, Kambo is used by indigenous tribes not only for physical healing, but also for clearing "panema" — a dense, heavy energy associated with misfortune, negativity, or emotional stagnation. Spiritually, Kambo is often described as a “clearing medicine” and helps remove what’s no longer serving you so that you can reconnect with your body, intuition, and sense of inner clarity.
Some people report feeling more emotionally grounded, connected to their purpose, or even spiritually "reset" after a session. These shifts are unique to each person and often unfold over time as part of the integration process.
Kambo doesn’t “give” visions or messages the way plant medicines like Ayahuasca do, but it makes space for your own wisdom and truth to rise to the surface.
Q: Will my throat close up if my face starts to swell?
A: No.
While it’s not unusual to feel a sensation of throat swelling (particularly when your face, lips, or cheeks begin to feel puffy), this sensation is temporary and does NOT interfere with your ability to breathe. Many clients find that talking through what they’re experiencing out loud with the practitioner during the session helps them stay grounded and reassured as the sensations pass.
Q: Is Kambo similar to Ayahuasca?
A: While both are traditional medicines used in Amazonian healing practices, Kambo and Ayahuasca are very different in how they work and what they do.
Kambo is not a psychedelic — it is a physical, non-psychoactive medicine made from the secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog. It works primarily on the body’s physical systems, supporting detoxification, immune function, and nervous system regulation.
Ayahuasca, on the other hand, is a plant-based psychedelic that induces altered states of consciousness and deep inner journeying. It primarily works on emotional and spiritual planes, often revealing insights through visions or guided introspection.
While both medicines can be transformative, Kambo is more often used for clearing blockages and resetting the body, and does not produce hallucinations or visions.
Q: What should I wear to my session?
A: Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you don’t mind sweating in.
Kambo can bring on heat, sweating, and purging, so it's best to dress in a way that allows you to feel physically relaxed and unrestricted. Many people choose to wear soft workout clothes, loose cotton, or layers they can adjust depending on how their body responds during the session. You’ll also want to make sure your arms, legs, lower back, or shoulders are easily accessible, depending on where your burn points will be placed.
Q: Is Kambo safe?
A: Yes — Kambo is considered very safe when administered by a properly trainer and certified practitioner.
The intense physical response it creates is temporary and intentional, designed to activate the body’s natural detox, immune and regulatory systems. That said, Kambo is a powerful medicine and it's not appropriate for everyone. This is why a thorough intake process is done before your session to review your health history, medications, and ensure that Kambo is the right fit for you.
